The Perfect Ink....

....doesn't exist!!!! :(

I recently went on a mission to find the perfect ink - one that comes in a good range of colours, doesn't stain clear stamps (too much!) and gives a perfect impression (picking up detail) each and every time....

Brands: Hero Arts (Dye & Chalk); Papertrey Ink (Dye); Adirondack (Dye); VersaMagic (Chalk), Memento (Dye); VersaFine (Pigment)

I justified the expense by reminding myself that stamping is actually my job now but it still stung - a lot.  I had planned on just keeping the brand that 'did it all' and putting the rest on ebay (I'm a very thrifty crafter!) so it pains me to conclude that I failed in my mission.

Oh well, guess I'll have to keep them all ;)

Edit: I will do a little write up of my findings soon, I don't like to assume that anyone would be interested in my opinions (lol) so thank you for asking :) x

How fun to look at all that ink. It's unfortunate that none met your expectations though. It would be wonderful to find the perfect ink, that's for sure.

I'll certainly be interested in your opinion....I get very confused by all the different inks that you can buy.

ooo that's yummy! would love to hear what results you got and what you think of each of them. I use Ranger Archival a lot, it does stain clear stamps but every ink eventually stains clear stamps! I love the archival because I got good crisp impressions everytime hugs Karen

Wow, that's a lot of ink! I'd love to hear what you think of each brand. I only have Versa Color at the moment and a few randoms like an Impress black and Memento grey, mainly for use with my Promarkers. I was going to start collecting memento as I need some dye as well as pigment so I'd love to know your verdict :) xx

Hi Stephanie, have you looked at Clearly Better Ink? I have tried it in just the cubes and it has been formulated especially for clear stamps. An appropriate name to complement your stamp range!!

Steph I had to come and read this I'd love to hear what you have to say about them I haven't tried a bunch of those but I do like Memento ink seems to clean off easy and sharp images and dies quick enough for me to colour with light markers :)
hugs

oh and not the dew drops a whole pad :)
Versafine is great when embossing

I'm definitely interested in what you thought of these. I have several of these brands myself, and use them for different purposes. Actually I ought to clean out my stamp pads and reinkers and just keep the ones I use regularly.

I use Stephanie Barnard inks by Colorbox. These inks are brilliant- smooth inkpad surface for good impressions with solid stamps and very good definition on detailed stamps. I don't know if all Colorbox inkpads are the same, but is highly recommend these ones.

Whoa! I can't wait to read your findings! :)

I am in awe of your ink collection (and so jealous too)!! I am always on the hunt for goo dink too. I have a couple of pads from My Favorite Things and really like them!! I am curious to hear which inks you liked the best!!

I'm very much looking forward to reading of your findings. Like most of us, I have my favorite inks for certain types of stamps, but I would love to come up with "the best" that's out there!

Tracey McNeely said...

Awesome Stephanie, sadly I have almost as much and yet I still look for the PERFECT ink. I am very very interested to here your findings as I am very OCD when it comes to ink and staining!

Vicki Dutcher said...

When I first found your blog, you were "getting out of stamping" and you had SOLD most of your stuff -- I am glad to see you are back in it full swing~ I bet it was an ouch buying all the ink at once, but I look forward to what your results are....

Karen B said...

Wow Stephanie, that's a whole shed load of inks you've got there - not surprised it hurt!. Looking forward with interest to your findings and why, perhaps, you chose these particular makes rather than ones like Stampin Up, Distress inks etc etc.

That's a lot of ink!! I'm a color fiend, so it makes sense to me. I have all the Copic colors....and still wish for more, lol!

Hi, Stephanie. I would love to read your review about this tiny collection of inks :D. That's what has been helping me making my choices. Maybe there isn't such thing as the perfect ink, but for now I am in love with Versa Magic, especially on solid stamps, however I never tried out most of these inks in the picture... Thank you.

oohhh I was so hoping for an answer hehehehehe! This would save so many of us money I'm sure! Would love to find out what the difference is between all of them and what you like or dislike about each one if you ever get time, although I know you are one very busy lady hehehehe!

wow...love the picture...I'm not bothered by staining, I'm a messy crafter:)

I feel for you. My favourite ink was Vivid by Colorbox. I was really bummed when they stopped making them. Have you tried Fresh Inks?
Looking forward to your review...

I to look forward to hearing your findings. Especially as I don't have the room for all those inks. lol

I shall certainly be interested in your findings Stephanie - very frustrating I know! Perhaps you could make us all happy and come up with a CBS ink pad!!

I would love your opinion on the variety of inks that you've tried, so please share!

craftvithme said...

OMG! That's a lot of ink pads :D

Just imagine how it would be if all those momento dew drops were full size pads! :D

I was hoping you would give some sort of insight into this. So far, the only kind of inks I use(apart from black versafine and versamark) for stamping are the Hero Arts.

PaperTreyInk charges heavily on International shipping, so I haven't tried any of their inks yet. But I love so many of their colors!

Looking forward to more from you!

The rest of us rely on you to give us information about those inks. thank you for doing the research. Looking forward to your opinion. I read your blod every day and am awed by your talent.

WOW! I would love that collection ;) Did you try out the new Memento Luxe collection, I'm interested to try them. x

Awwww, but don't all those colours look pretty :)

What an assortment! I look forward to your information on the inks. I have SU!, Jenni Bowlin,Tim Holtz Distress Inks and a few of this and that. My favorite black for sentiments is VersaFine Onyx Black. I have heard good things about Wplus9 and MFT.

Lyndal said...

OMG!!! That lot should keep you going for a while!!! Love to hear your opinion :)

Alex said...

Now I would be extremely interested, as this is something I struggle with trying to get a perfect image with clear stamps lol - so yes please!!!! x

Just looking at that photo makes me uber-happy!

Tamara King said...

Oh my word, that's a lot of ink pads!! I too would love to hear your findings of the different pads. I use a couple of memento, black & grey & a black versafine I find good for detailed stamping & sentiments. Most of mine are Stampin' Up ones, mainly because I love the matching inks/cardstock/ribbon, but I don't always get a perfect stamped image with those when I'm using clear stamps. x
